Festivals & Fairs
St. Tammany Parish hosts a variety of festivals and events throughout the year. Each spring, the Chef Soireé, held in Covington’s Bogue Falaya Park benefits the Youth Service Bureau and features samplings from over 100 of the Northshore’s finest restaurants and beverage purveyors, as well as live entertainment. This is the largest fundraising event on the Northshore.
Art at the Park and Spring for Art bring art lovers and collectors from throughout the region to western St. Tammany. The Great Louisiana Bird Fest attracts bird watchers from around the country. June and July bring the Lacombe Crab Cook-off Festival and the Mandeville Seafood Festival as well as the Old-Fashioned Family Fourth in Bogue Falaya Park.
The Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival, benefiting the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Maritime Museum, takes place each fall. It features more than 100 classic, contemporary and antique wooden boats gathered along the Tchefuncte River in Madisonville. October brings the St. Tammany Parish Fair and a full round of other celebrations of art, music and spirited fun.
The Three Rivers Art Festival sets up in November in the streets of downtown Covington, celebrating the works of over 150 artists from over 20 states in a juried art show.
In December, downtown Covington hosts Christmas in the Country, and the Holiday Lights illuminate the Tammany Trace. The season brings a full slate of special programs and performances by local schools, nonprofit and cultural organizations.
Tammany Trace
Formerly a railroad line and now a nature-filled pathway, the Tammany Trace is a 28-mile path of graceful twists and bends stretching from Slidell to Covington, linking the parish from east to west. Its asphalt surface attracts walkers, joggers and all who enjoy the outdoors. Portions of the route feature a parallel equestrian trail.
The Trace resurrects three main Trailheads along the route. The Carollo Trailhead in Slidell, the Mandeville Trailhead near the lakefront and the Tammany Trace Trailhead further north in Mandeville all individually sponsor events throughout the year. For more information visit www.tammanytrace.org.
